Media Release: Security First for Media Outcomes

19 June 2007

Kettering-based communications consultancy, Media Outcomes, has today (Tuesday, June 19, 2007) become the first business in the country to achieve accreditation under the police-approved Secured Environments business security scheme.

Secured Environments is a new risk management standard, launched earlier this year to promote good security practice in organisations by focusing on strategy, process and people. It complements the successful ACPO-supported Secured by Design initiative.

Media Outcomes received its Secured Environments accreditation during a ceremony held at its headquarters at the SATRA Innovation Park, Rockingham Road, Kettering.

Association of Chief Police Officers Crime Prevention Initiative (ACPO CPI) Managing Director, Richard Childs presented the award to Media Outcomes senior partner, Kevin Shapland.

"Media Outcomes is the first company in the country to receive the Secured Environments award which is a significant achievement, demonstrating an ongoing, pro-active approach to security risk management," said Mr Childs.

"Taking active steps to reduce crime and improve security is vital to ensuring the long-term sustainability of businesses and the premises on which they operate."

The award follows a detailed audit of the company’s security and safety policies and practice, conducted by Perpetuity, a ‘spin-out’ from the University of Leicester, one of the country’s leading crime and security consultancies.

Media Outcomes:

Councillor Christopher Lamb (Mayor of Kettering), Professor Martin Gill (Perpetuity Group), Kevin Shapland (Media Outcomes Senior Partner), Mr Richard Childs (Managing Director of the Association of Chief Police Officers Crime Prevention Initiative), Mr Mike Franklin, (Crime Prevention Manager, Northants Police)

Director of Perpetuity, Professor Martin Gill also congratulated Media Outcomes on achieving the accreditation.

"This police accredited scheme has considerable potential to change the standards of crime prevention practice across the UK. Media Outcomes are an example of how important improvements in the security of people and property can be made efficiently and cost-effectively. It is a fantastic achievement and one that sets a target others will want to reach."

Media Outcomes Senior Partner, Kevin Shapland said the company is delighted to be the first business in the country to achieve the important Secured Environments accreditation.

"The safety and security of our staff, our premises and our clients sits at the top of our list of priorities and it is gratifying to know that the policies and procedures we have in place to ensure this are up to scratch," said Mr Shapland

"We believe Secured Environments makes an important contribution to business success by helping to focus organisations on an essential area of business activity.

"“We were relatively happy with our physical security arrangements, but the accreditation process forced us to think hard about issues such as the security of clients’ information and staff safety and to review our systems for ensuring that we are thinking about these matters on a continuous basis."

EDITOR NOTES:

Secured Environments is a new risk management scheme that was launched on 12 April, 2007 to promote good security practices in organisations by focusing on strategy, process and people.

The scheme has been developed by ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives in partnership with Perpetuity, one of the country’s leading crime and security consultancies and a spin-out from the University of Leicester. It complements the existing ACPO-supported Secured by Design project.

Secured Environments assess organisations to see if they have made security an inherent part of how they are managed. If they pass the specified standards, organisations are certified as being secure by ACPO CPI and awarded the ‘Police’ Secured Environments Certificate.

The scheme has been successfully piloted on a number of organisations including schools and business in different parts of the country.

A key advantage of Secured Environments is that helps organisations to think about their risks and how to make the best use of security measures they already have.

Media Outcomes is a communications consultancy providing advice and support for a range of clients in the public and private sectors. For further information on the company please contact Derek Plews on 07738 862492, email derek@mediaoutcomes.co.uk or visit www.mediaoutcomes.co.uk
